Saare County

It is a tranquil place where at every step, you discover something extraordinary. Here, vast sandy beaches, magnificent pine forests, and the primal peace of nature come together, offering true relaxation for both the body and the mind.

Koigi Educational Trail

The Koigi Educational Trail (Koigi õpperada) offers a 5.7-kilometer adventure full of learning and enjoying the beautiful nature of Saaremaa.

The trail is located in the largest bog of Saaremaa, where visitors can observe various stages of bog development.

The route first follows the sedge meadow of the raised bog, crosses bridges built over ditches, passes through a pine-covered transition bog and a bog forest, and then continues along a boardwalk around lake Koigi Pikkjärv. For a relaxing break, there are three lakeside platforms along the trail, and a viewing tower at the edge of the bog offers an excellent opportunity to observe birds.

Vilsandi

Vilsandi, with its diverse landscapes, is the tenth largest island in Estonia (9.4 km²). The island is approximately 6 km long and 2.5 km wide.

On Vilsandi, we recommend exploring the windmills, the lighthouse, and definitely walking along the coastline, where you can encounter a variety of bird species, one of the most fascinating of which is the white-tailed eagle.

Harilaiu Hiking Trail

Relaxing sounds of the sea, diverse coastal landscapes, and, with a bit of luck, fascinating animals and birds – all of this can be experienced on the Harilaiu Hiking Trail in Vilsandi National Park. The trail is available in two different lengths – 6 km and 11 km.

For true adventure seekers, we definitely recommend taking the longer route, as it allows you to experience all the magic of the trail. One of the most interesting highlights is the leaning Kiipsaare Lighthouse, standing in the sea.

Sõrve Peninsula

The southern tip of the Sõrve Peninsula is the southernmost point of Saaremaa. At the tip of the peninsula stands the tallest lighthouse in the Baltic Sea (52m). To reach the top of the lighthouse, you’ll need to climb 242 steps, and on clear days, you can even see Latvia from the observation platform.

Next to the lighthouse is a visitor center, which features an exhibition on Estonian lighthouses and a tourist information point. The building also houses a children’s play area and a nature discovery room, where you can learn fascinating facts about the natural environment of the Sõrve region.
